Our client FLASKAMP commissioned MESO with the design and implementation for the four exhibits for Energy Efficiency Roadshow 2009, a project of the Bundesministerium für Wirtschaft und Technologie touring through major German cities to promote the topic of energy efficiency.
The multimedia application shows the major resources of the four prime energy sources: oil, coal, gas, and uranium on a world map. MESO developed the exhibit concept as well as interaction and graphic design. The multimedia application displayed on a large-sized monitor is operated by a an illuminated slider. The slider is equipped with a back projection surface showing the years. Above the slider is an illuminated diagram showing the the shrinkage of ressources worldwide. The diagram is touch sensitive to select the prime energy sources. The monitor displays a world map showing the major stocks of the four prime energy sources all over the world. The user is informed about the development and decrease of the existing fossil fuels over the years since 1900 by adjusting a time bar.
The interactive table provides information about energy use and production in Germany. MESO developed the exhibit concept as well as interaction and graphic design. The Energy Mix Table is an interactive table providing information about the energy use in the different parts of Germany. The user is able to retrieve information about the 150 largest power-plants and have a look at the energy mix of specific German Länder, by hovering or touching the hotspots. Additionally it is possible to have a look at the power network and the gas pipelines, as well as the available fossil energy sources in Germany. Analogue scrollwheels at the ends of the table provide the possibility for diving deeper into the topic, and allow the integration of detailed information.
The digital model of a low-energy house is embedded in a wall. It displays the major energy guzzlers of a common apartment building. By pressing the buttons on an additional bell keyboard useful information about certain energy consumptions, possibilities to save energy and public help to decrease the energy consumption are given.
The Energy Efficiency quiz does not only challenge the users knowledge but also provides useful advice of how to safe energy in everyday life. MESO developed the exhibit concept as well as interaction, graphic and sound design. At two opposing touch screens two visitors can challenge each other, test, and deepen their knowledge of how to save energy in everyday life.
